Fargo HDP5000 Faded Cards: Retransfer Diagnostic

Faded output on the Fargo HDP5000 is almost always a retransfer film, printhead, or platen roller issue. Here's the diagnostic order.

Retransfer film tension

Loose or torn retransfer film causes washed-out, blotchy output on the HDP5000. Inspect the film path and replace the film cartridge with a known-good unit.

Printhead wear

The HDP5000 prints in reverse to the retransfer film, so printhead wear shows as banding or missing colors on the film before transfer. Lift the printhead and inspect under good light.

Platen roller wear

A glazed or compressed platen roller produces uneven retransfer pressure and faded edges. Replacement is part of standard HDP5000 service.

Heater roller temperature

If the retransfer heater isn't holding spec temperature, the film won't fully transfer to the card. Bench calibration with a thermal probe is required.
